Innovative RegionsThe overall aim of the project is to make the involved regions (Denmark, Sweden and West Midlands) more capable of embracing the possibilities of globalisation - of "Managing restructuring". . Many European regions are experiencing massive job losses as a consequence of economic globalisation. Solutions needs to be found, and one solution is to ease the transition from an industrial society to a knowledge-based society. The purpose of this project is to develop and test methods for handling and anticipating the negative consequences of a globalised economy, by enhancing the capacity of regional and local authorities as well as of companies to tackle restructuring processes and to act globally, and thereby increase job security and welfare. The project has three operational objectives:1) Develop a method to redefine clusters ensuring the sustainability of existing and future clusters, and how to facilitate SME's in becoming innovative and adaptable through involvement in industrial clusters. 2) Anticipating future competence profiles in production SME's. There is a significant need for information concerning which types of industries, companies and jobs are at a risk of being outsourced to low-wage countries. The experiences gained in this project will be used to provide guidelines to regional and local authorities on which types of competences are needed in the future for SME's to remain competitive, innovative and able to handle the restructuring processes and globalisation. 3) Develop new models for knowledge transfer between the science community, educational institutions and companies. We want to bring the science community, the educational sector and business life together in creating innovative and adaptable.
