Inspired by a little Italian bookGlassdomainBromsgrove Glass has always had a strong stake in its core market, but it has recently developed new innovative market opportunities and the exciting brand Glassdomain. The inspiration came from a small book on Italian glass furniture. The company had the skills and knowledge to diversify into contemporary furniture markets, but needed to find a way to pull it all together. The missing piece of the puzzle was design expertise to help translate ideas into innovative market-leading products. The Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP), part-funded through the Dti, gave it access to university resources, equipment and technical expertise together with high calibre design graduate, Peter Wardleworth. Peter is now employed as in-house designer. By challenging production and manufacturing procedures, diversifying its product base and customising individual pieces, Glassdomain has moved into new, previously unreachable markets. Products can be bought at Liberty, London and are showcased in interiors magazines. Glassdomain is an outstanding example of how innovation and creativity have changed business practice and culture.
